Pilar Manchón was admitted to the First Degree in English Philology by the University of Seville in 1997. In 1998 she was granted the British Council and La Caixa scholarshipt to do a MSc. in Cognitive Science and Natural Language at the University of Edinburgh, which she successfully completed in 1999. That same year, she was granted a Fulbright scholarship and was admitted to Stanford University to conduct postgraduate research in Computational Linguistics. During that time, she was also an International Fellow at SRI International, Artificial Intelligence Department, Spoken Dialogue Systems Group. In 2000, she joined a start-up company in Boca Raton (Florida), where she worked as a Senior Computational Linguist and Technology Architect developing speech solutions. In 2002, she worked as a researcher at the University of Seville during several European Research Projects. In 2003 and together with Gabriel Amores, she founded “Intelligent Dialogue Systems S.L.” (INDISYS), a spin-off of the University of Seville that develops dialogue systems as well as other speech and language technology solutions. In addition to her technical background and experience, she has also received executive training in the San Telmo International Institute (Seville) and the Sloan School of Management (MIT, USA).
Today, she is CEO of INDISYS. This company employs 20 Engineers and Linguists and develops advanced natural language solutions for specific needs (www.indisys.es). She defended her PhD thesis in Intelligent Multimodal Dialogue Systems in 2009.
